After flipping through five different vacation catalogues over a period of 3

The Joy of Paris!
by Claire Garcia
Paris!  The city's name has conjured up magical connotations for me ever
since I was little and my mother, a painter and sculptor, would entertain
me with stories of the fabled city as she massaged Vaseline into my scalp.
In 1949, my mother and her sister, along with their two friends, pooled their
savings and embarked the long-defunct ocean liner, the Ile de France, to
make a pilgrimage to the City of Light...
A Tour of  Italy
by Jacinta Smith
After college I started working for a national travel company
that catered to students, teachers, and young adults.  The
atmosphere of this company was full of adventurous minded
people that would travel at the drop of a hat. So after about
six months of working here I was past due to take a trip...
Seven Days in Berlin
by Michelle Middlebrook
I went to Berlin, Germany from March 25 to April 1, 2003. I'm a
30-something Black woman who had never been on an
airplane, let alone outside of the United States.  I had always
wanted to travel to Europe and Berlin seemed like a good
choice for me.  Prior to taking my trip, I went online to get
information about being a Black traveler in Berlin...

I'm a 34 year African-American and my wife is
Cuban-American. We traveled to Amsterdam, Holland from
March 30th to April 6th 2003. This was my second trip to
Amsterdam. My first trip was in April of 2000.
We took our trip as a vacation during my favorite time of the
year.  March and April are great times to go to Amsterdam
because it's right at the beginning of the tourist season...

time I went to Spain I was 21 and on a month long study

the group; two of us were Black.  It was my first time leaving
the country.  Everything was new and exciting. I had been
waiting all my life for an opportunity like this...
Heraklion: Summer Heat in Greece
by K esha  Bruc e
In the summer of 2002, I was lucky enough to find a great
vacation package to Crete leaving from France, where I
was living at the time.  My husband and I flew into the
Heraklion airport at around noon. This was our first mistake.
Warning: Crete in the August is beyond HOT...
Black in the Emerald Isle
By Debra V. Wilson
While living in London several years ago I was encouraged
by some Irish nationals at the church I attended to visit the
Emerald Isle - Ireland.  I remember thinking at the time that
Ireland was the last place on earth I wanted to be.  Then of
course as fate would have it ...
A Journey Through Venice
& Florence
by F. Parker
In the past year and a half my wife and I have been to
Italy twice.  We have visited Rome, Florence, Milan and
Venice.  Both trips were great.   My wife and I anticipated
some potential problems in Venice, since I had heard that
they had some real issues with Black Folks...
The Magic of the Eiffel Tower
Submitted by Louise from Florida
I am a 51-year-old black American spending time in Paris
with my husband and teen son.  This is my 7th time in
Europe.   What I have enjoyed is getting appreciative
looks from men. Regardless of one's color, the Parisians do
have an eye for the ladies, and it's nice to get that kind of
attention at my age...

I am a 39 year old African American male and I live in Europe.  Over the

England---A Not So Far Away Land
Meredith Talford

As a woman of color growing up in a small town in the south, I
felt like anywhere other than where I was, was so far away.
Other places were spoken about as if they were far away lands
in a fairy-tale book that I could only visit in my dreams.  My trip
to England changed that for me.
SEE YOU IN PAMPLONA!
Lola Akinmade

Those were the last words I heard from some Italians I had
befriended in Barcelona the day before I was heading
down to Pamplona. The odds of that happening were
literally 1 in 1.5 million people expected to be reveling
during San Fermin.
